HGTV's "Copy Our Cover" - The Look for Less Jan's Way! Part IV

Hola!

Finally here, the rugs!  A reminder of the cover, HGTV's March, 2019 magazine:

Part I: The Chair.
Part II:  The Throw Pillow, the Side Table, The Coffee Mug and the Planter.
Part III:  The Art.

The Rug

The part I left until now - the rug.  I spent a lot of time trying to track down the particular area rug HGTV used in this spread, with zero success.  The first place I started was at the back of the magazine in "[sources]" where all items used in the magazine are listed and where available, sources given.  Unfortunately, the only description provided under the rug was "pbteen.com."  So I went to pbteen.com and searched in vain, several times.  Couldn't find anything remotely like the area rug used on the cover.

That left regular shopping and my particular brand of hunting.  I'm not particularly gifted in search techniques, but I am can be pretty relentless and I try to apply common sense.

The first thing that I thought about the rug is - looks like a luxurious hand-crafted rug, maybe custom made. I ended up at Anthropologie after several different word searches using my words and similar and found this rug - not available since November 2017.  Sigh.  You'll have to scroll down on the Anthropologie page a bit to get to the rug, described as a hand-knotted cotton and rayon rug with a textured, latticed geometry -- "Hand-Tufted Trellis Rug."  No size, other color options or prices were shown.  Pictured below:

Not the same, but in the ballpark.  Three of the four main colors are there: pink, white, goldish yellow; rather than black, the dark part looks like a charcoal gray.

Although this beautiful rug is no longer available, and I didn't find anything exactly like it elsewhere, it did give me an important search clue/clues  the words "trellis" and "lattice."

I subsequently found lots of "trellis" or "lattice" style rugs, but nothing really close to the rug used on the HGTV cover.  So, I switched gears and tried to concentrate first on more geometric rugs with the room's colors in it; I then added a whole bunch of oriental style rugs with all of the colors used in the room, and then culled most of them out. Many of them were beautiful, but not remotely similar to the cover rug, so out they went (but I kept some, as you'll see).

And on the day I did one last search, at Amazon - I came across this rug:

The rug (pictured above) is from the Now House by Jonathan Adler Martine Collection 5' x 7' area rug in blush, 100% wool, hand-made in India.  It doesn't feature square blocks of color, and there is no goldish yellow.  When I priced it, it was $157 and some change, plus shipping and sales taxes, for a total of $184.06.  Today the same rug is priced at $180.29 (but sales tax not added yet) with free shipping.  The free shipping option wasn't available when I sourced the rug - but at that time Amazon was pushing membership in Amazon Prime and was offering free 2 day shipping for trying it out for a week.  Now the free shipping on orders over $25 appears to be available again.

Other geometric options to consider:

From Wayfair, the Gus Modern Element Rose Hand Tufted Wool Blush Area Rug, in the 5' x 8' size at a whopping price tag of $795 (pictured below):

It's got the pink, the goldish yellow and the white, but tones of gray rather than the black accent in the cover rug, but not a lattice or trellis design.

This is also a color-block style rug, but a lot less expensive, offered by Target through Google Express, its a 5' x 7' Color Block (Hand Tufted) Area Rug in Pink by Project 62, 90% wool/10% nylon with 100% cotton backing, on sale at $152.99 (reg. $179.99) (pictured below):

Simple and sleek, but it doesn't have any of the goldish yellow color and very little pink.  Still, for the size and the fact that its mostly wool with a good cotton backing, and hand-made to boot, it's a great bargain.

The rug below was found at houzz, Well Woven Vettore Naomi Modern Geometric Print Area Rug in Pink, 5' x 7', polypropylene, $116 (shipping extra):

No goldish yellow, no black, but the polypropylene makes it soft underfoot and it would be easy to clean.

From The Home Depot, below is the Rugsmith Memphis Mid-Century Modern Geometric Blush Area Rug, 5' x 7, $152.27, free delivery.  This rug is 100% nylon with a cotton backing, made in India, non-shedding and easy to clean:

This option is definitely on the pastel pink side of the equation - no black, no white, no goldish yellow.

The next few rugs go in a different geometric print direction:

From Joss & Main, below is the Nichole Beige Area Rug, 5' x 7', $107.99 (reg. $252.00), in polypropylene:

There isn't any goldish yellow in this rug, but there is some black, pink in a couple of different shades, shades of gray, shades of blue, and white.

A similarly patterned rug found at Joss & Main but with different color tones, the Lady Leila Rose Red Area Rug, CosmoLiving by Cosmopolitan, 5' x 7', on sale for $76.99 (Reg. $199.00) (pictured below):

This rug has a lot of pink in it, maybe not enough white and goldish yellow.

Below are the non-geometric rugs I selected, primarily for the colors used, keeping in mind that one of the swivel chairs I selected wasn't pink but magenta, and thus some of the art was also selected with more "reddish purple" tones, and some had more turquoise/teal/aqua tones - you'll see why in a couple of the rugs below.

This rug, found at Wayfair, is the Mistana Bangou Cotton Pink Area Rug, 5' x 7 ', $154.99 (Reg. $243.52) (free shipping), pictured below:

As you see, a classic medallion "oriental" in pastel shades of pink, goldish yellow, a little bit of purple and blue.  Very different from the "checkerboard" or "trellis/lattice" pattern of he HGTV selection for its cover!

The rug pictured below is from Rugs USA, the Chroma Mosaic Medallion Rug in a (vivid) pink, 5' x 7', polypropylene, $69.50 after discount (Reg. $139):

From AllModern, below is the Bungalow Rose Loneruck Aqua/Pink Area Rug, 5' x 7' in polypropylene, $91.99 (Reg. $198) (free 2-day shipping).  The image doesn't do it justice, with multiple soft tones of pink/lavender, blue, and yellow to gold:

The rug below is from Wovenly, the Etugen Contemporary Ikat Rectangular Rug in cream.  Yes, the color is described as cream, although the written description of the rug notes "vibrant shades of bright pink hues."  This rug is 5'3" x 7'6", polypropylene, made in Turkey, $123 (reg. $205):

The last stop will be where I put together two rooms - my personal choices/preferences and a room I think most copies the HGTV March 2019 cover.  Stay tuned!
